Get With the Guidelines, American Heart Association
2014, 2015
Then
Collaborating with the American Heart Association, McGowan Fellows developed recommendations, aimed at increasing hospital adoption of best practices, known as Get With the Guidelines, in the prevention and treatment for stroke, heart failure, resuscitation, coronary artery disease, and atrial fibrillation. This two-year project included interviews and market research and ended with multiple actionable recommendations.
Now
AHA has implemented all the recommendations shared by the McGowan Fellows. Currently, the Get With the Guidelines registries are active in more than 2,500 U.S. hospitals. The bundled pricing structure and streamlined contracting model with a universal hospital agreement suggested by the Fellows have been critical in allowing AHA to quickly enroll hospitals in a new COVID-19 cardiac registry launched in a matter of weeks. Additionally, as recommended by the Fellows, AHA was able to include select measures from Get With the Guidelines in the quality measures used by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Bundled Payments for Care Improvement program, thus providing financial benefits to hospitals participating in the registries.
